Residences for Rent in Dakar (Ngor)
No residences listed in Ngor yet
The page exists, the properties are on their way. In the meantime, here are other options for your stay — and if you own a property in the area, now's the time to list it.
There is one question everyone asks themselves when settling in Dakar for several weeks: do I want to be close to work, or close to the sea? In Ngor, the answer is the sea — and it is a choice that makes a lot of sense once your stay goes beyond a month.
Ngor and Le Virage form the northern fringe of the peninsula, where recent buildings stand alongside the Lebou village and you walk down to the beach. This page lists the serviced residences in the area: furnished apartments with a kitchen, in buildings that provide services.
We are a Senegalese company and we put you in direct contact with the establishments. The resident rate is displayed on each property.
Ngor & the long-stay serviced residence
The area has a feature that is unique in Dakar, and it is physical: Ngor bay faces in such a way that it is sheltered from the swell that pounds the rest of the coast. On a peninsula lined with cliffs and breaking waves, it is the only calm water where you can really swim, every day, with no conditions attached. For a three-night stay, that is a nice extra. For a three-month stay, it changes the shape of your day: you swim in the morning before starting work, go back down in the late afternoon, and weekends require no travel at all.
The area's buildings reflect a dual history. The Lebou village, dense and old, occupies the center; around it and along the Virage road, more recent apartment buildings have gone up, part of the same wave of urbanization as the western tip. These buildings are where the serviced residences are: furnished apartments, elevator, parking, security, often a rooftop terrace. So here you have the rare combination of recent facilities and village life a hundred meters away.
This setup attracts a particular profile. It is mostly not short business assignments tied to headquarters — those stay closer to their offices. It is rather stays of several months: remote workers, PhD students and researchers, consultants on long projects, artists in residence, surfers staying for a season, retirees spending the winter. People whose schedule does not require them to be in the Plateau at eight every morning, and for whom daily quality of life matters more than travel time.
Because travel time is indeed the trade-off. Ngor is at the northwestern tip of the peninsula: the Plateau is twenty to thirty minutes away off-peak, but can take more than an hour at rush hour. This is not a detail to discover once you are there — it is the criterion that should decide the neighborhood.
What a serviced residence in Ngor covers
- Furnished studio or one-bedroom — the format for a long solo stay: kitchenette, workspace, shower room.
- Two-bedroom apartment — for a family, a couple settling in, or two people working from home.
- Apartment with terrace or rooftop — the area's signature: it is higher up that you gain space and a view of the bay.
- Building services — cleaning, security, sometimes laundry. The level varies considerably from one building to the next: check explicitly.
- Remote-work-ready apartment — desk, reliable connection, UPS or backup generator. This is the first thing to confirm if you will be working from here.
If you are staying a few nights and want a personal welcome, our guesthouses in the village are a better fit. If you are looking for a better-equipped building with a pool and more services, look at Les Almadies, a few minutes away. You choose a residence in Ngor to live by the water for the long haul.
What it changes day to day
- A daily swim — the bay is calm and within walking distance. It is the area's core selling point, and it holds up over time.
- Surfing — spots for all levels a few minutes away, with instruction available all year. Many long stays in Ngor start there.
- Exercise and the corniche — working out is a local habit, early in the morning or late in the day, along the northern coastline.
- Village life — shops, fishmongers, neighborhood restaurants: you do your shopping on foot, which is rare in Dakar.
- The rest of the city — Yoff and the airport road to the north, the VDN to head down toward the center, and Dakar twenty to sixty minutes away depending on the time of day.
When to go
From November to March, the air is dry and the swell well established: it is surf season, the water is cooler and the area is busy. From April to June, the sea warms up and the bay becomes ideal for a daily swim, with fewer people — probably the best window for a long stay.
From July to September, the rainy season (hivernage) brings heavy heat and downpours, but the water is at its warmest and the coastal breeze makes the area far more bearable than inland parts of the city. It is also the easiest time to find a monthly rental. Note that Ngor fills up every weekend of the year, Dakar residents included: it does not bother someone living here, but you will hear it.
Good to know & booking
Two checks before committing for several months. First, car access: some addresses in the village cannot be reached right to the door, as the lanes are narrow and sandy — ask where to park. Second, the backup generator and internet connection, which are decisive if you work from home.
The international airport is east of the city: allow a good hour from Ngor, longer at busy times. For swimming, follow the locals: the bay is calm but some areas are rocky.
The process is the same everywhere: 20% online to secure the property, the balance to the owner. Over a stay of several months, that is a real cash-flow relief — but sort out two things with the owner as soon as you book: how the balance will be paid (cash, bank transfer, monthly installments depending on the case) and any additional deposit, which is shown on the listing when the owner requires one.
Cancellation is free up to 7 days before arrival between June 1 and October 31, and 14 days between November 1 and May 31; after that the booking is final. The resident rate is displayed on each property, is intended for those living in Senegal and the Senegalese diaspora, and is activated on an account verified by phone. The long-stay discount often becomes much more favorable from three months: ask the owner for it. The tourist tax is added to the rate: allow 1,000 FCFA per person per night, paid on site to the owner. Senegal Rent does not collect it; the information is provided for your budget. If the owner cancels, we rehouse you in an equivalent residence in Ngor, Les Almadies or Ouakam, or refund all fees in full.
Who is it for?
Long stays for remote workers: this is the area's main profile, and the place is made for it — the sea on foot, neighborhood life, reasonable day-to-day costs. Researchers, PhD students and artists in residence staying for one or more quarters. Surfers spending the season. Retirees and the Senegalese diaspora coming home for the winter. Families relocating, provided they check travel times to their chosen school. And consultants on long projects whose schedule allows them to be away from the center.
On the other hand, if you have daily meetings in the Plateau or Diamniadio, this is not the right choice: you will spend two hours a day in the car, and no view of the bay makes up for that after six weeks.
What people end up telling you about a long stay in Ngor is never the apartment. It is the habit they picked up: going down to the water at seven before opening the laptop, coming back up in ten minutes, and starting the day with salt on their skin. After three months, that is the routine you do not want to leave.
FAQ
Can you swim every day?
Yes, and that is what makes the area special: Ngor bay is sheltered from the swell, so it is calm, which is unique on the Dakar coastline. Some areas are rocky — follow the locals to choose where to get into the water.
How long does it take to get to the Plateau?
Twenty to thirty minutes off-peak, more than an hour at rush hour. If you have daily meetings in the center or in Diamniadio, choose a more central residence instead.
Is it suitable for remote work?
It is the area's main profile, but it all depends on the apartment: explicitly check the connection and whether there is a backup generator or UPS before committing for several months.
Can you rent by the month?
Yes, that is the main use here, and the long-stay discount often becomes much more favorable from three months. Ask for it explicitly.
Can you park in front of the building?
Not always: some addresses in the village are on narrow, sandy lanes that cannot be reached by car right to the door. Ask where to park before booking.
How is it different from a residence in Les Almadies?
Les Almadies has newer, better-equipped buildings, with more pools and services. Ngor offers the calm bay, swimming within walking distance and village life. The two neighborhoods are next to each other and both are listed on the site.
How do you pay for a stay of several months?
20% online to secure the property, the balance to the owner. For a long stay, agree with the owner as soon as you book on how the balance will be paid — cash, bank transfer or monthly installments depending on the case — and check whether an additional deposit is required.
