Campement Kaymba Lodge

Campement Kaymba Lodge

A campement in the bolongs, reached by pirogue

Kaymba Lodge is set in Cachouane, a village of a few hundred inhabitants in the estuary and bolong landscape of Lower Casamance. Everything is on one level, and the campement offers three ways to sleep, from the most rustic to the most comfortable.

The bamboo huts are the family option: a double bed and single beds, for up to four people, with a private toilet. The rooms in the brick hut, each with its own entrance, sleep two in a double bed, with a private bathroom and toilet and a shared terrace. Finally, the tents sleep two, with shared facilities: the simplest option, for those who come mainly for the place.

Breakfast is included in every rate, huts and tents alike. The campement restaurant serves other meals, with two set options. Everything else is designed for a remote location: generator, Wi-Fi, reception, terrace, security guard, parking and housekeeping. The campement arranges your transfer there, including the pirogue from Elinkine.

Children are welcome, and so are pets. Private events are possible. Check-in is between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.; late check-out can be negotiated on site. French, English, Wolof and Spanish are spoken.

It suits travelers who want the Casamance of villages and water rather than developed beaches, families looking for a hut for four, tight budgets willing to take a tent, and long, quiet stays.

Where Campement Kaymba Lodge is located

The campement is in Cachouane, a small village in Casamance in the Diembéring area, north of Cap Skirring. It is reached by pirogue from Elinkine, which is both the charm and the constraint of the place: it is remote, and you need to plan your arrival with the campement.

From Dakar, you fly from Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) to Ziguinchor or Cap Skirring (about an hour's flight), or take the Dakar–Ziguinchor ferry, an overnight crossing. Then there is the road to Elinkine, followed by the pirogue. It is not a weekend address: you come for several days.

Around it: Oussouye and the Diola villages inland; the island of Carabane, at the mouth of the river; Cap Skirring and its beaches; and Ziguinchor, the regional capital.
