Standard Room - La Lagune du Thiouraye
Petite Côte · Joal-Fadiouth
La Lagune du Thiouraye has six rooms on two floors, sleeping twelve in total, and a location few places in Joal can claim: on the water's edge, right in the town center, with the lagoon and the sea inlet as its horizon. The rooms are all of the same type, a Standard room for two with a 160 cm double bed, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a private bathroom.
Breakfast is included. The hotel has its own restaurant and bar, a pool, a reception desk, parking, a security guard and cameras, and a generator that takes over during power cuts. Housekeeping is provided.
What makes the difference here is what the hotel organizes itself: the airport shuttle is run by the hotel, and the owner offers excursions, a guide and meals to discover Joal-Fadiouth and the surrounding area. Staff speak French, English, Wolof and Pulaar.
Children and pets are welcome, and parties are possible by arrangement with the hotel. Check-in is from noon, check-out at 10:00; late check-out until 15:00 is available for an extra charge. There is no elevator, garden or terrace. A resident rate is available on request.
The hotel suits couples and travelers who come for Fadiouth and the lagoon rather than for a beach resort, the Senegalese diaspora visiting the region, work trips of a few days in the southern Petite Côte, and Dakar residents looking for a different weekend from Saly, with pickup arranged from the airport.
The hotel is in the center of Joal-Fadiouth, in the Diamaguène neighborhood, on the edge of the lagoon, at the southern end of the Petite Côte. Fadiouth's shell island and its mixed cemetery, shared by Christians and Muslims, are very close by, as is Senegal's largest baobab by circumference, 33 meters around.
From Dakar, allow about two hours by road, first the highway then the Mbour road: doable for a weekend if you leave on Friday afternoon. From Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD), about an hour, and the hotel comes to pick you up.
Nearby: Palmarin and its landscapes of salt flats and palm trees, a little further south; Mbour and its fishing quay, to the north; Saly for restaurants and nights out; and the Sine Saloum delta, which begins beyond Palmarin.
In Joal, most things can be done on foot or by pirogue, without getting back in the car.
